Thanks to the commitment of our performers and workshop leaders, we are delighted to be able to offer in 2022 the same exciting programme that we had hoped to stage in 2020.
Draft PROGRAMME
Friday
- 7.30pm: The Gates of Bristol, a programme of music that might have been heard on the streets and round the gates of medieval Bristol, with The Basilisk, a new group of internationally acclaimed musicians.
Saturday
- 10.30am - 12.00: Tudor Dance workshop: fun for all the family, stately pavanes, lively almains and branles, led by Elizabeth Dodd.
- 10.30am - 4.30pm: Exhibition of Instruments: a wide range of early instruments will be on display, some brought by makers, and some lent by local musicians.
- 10.30am - 1.30pm: Meet the Makers: talks and demonstrations by makers of recorders, baroque violins and cellos, cornetts and harpsichords.
- 1.00 - 3.30pm: Workshop for Wind and Strings: early instrumental music with Jeremy West and Stephanie Muncie-Dyer of His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts.
- 2.45 - 4.15pm: Catch That Catch Can: a workshop for singers of all levels of experience, exploring the English tradition of singing catches or rounds, led by Clare Griffel.
- 8.00pm: The Field of Cloth of Gold: a programme of music associated with the spectacular meeting of Henry VIII and Francois I in 1520, presented by Nova Early Music Ensemble with His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts.
Sunday
- 11am: Choral Eucharist with the choir of All Saints Church, directed by John Davenport and the cornetts and sackbuts of the Favonius Collective. The music will include Missa Bell′ Amfitrit′ Altera by Orlando di Lasso.
- 1.30 - 3pm: Recorder Workshop 1 for less experienced players of all ages, led by Annabel Knight. Ensemble music with some easier parts for beginners.
- 3.30 to 5pm: Recorder Workshop 2 for experienced players, led by Annabel Knight. Challenging music on both F and C instruments.
- 6pm: Pre-concert talk by Prof. Emma Hornby
- 6.30pm: Medieval Chant and Polyphony performed by the University of Bristol Schola Cantorum directed by Emma Hornby
- 8.00pm: Early Music Cabaret with a licensed bar open from 7.30pm, and short performances of music composed before 1700.
